Person of the Month, Bayer Farm.
La Voz’s Person of the Month articles celebrate outstanding members of the community and their contributions to our region. Since our inception we have featured folks from both private and public sectors as well as local college students. Some, like the community leaders we’ve featured are well-known. Others are not, but richly deserving the recognition for their civic contributions. We’ve featured artists, athletes, educators, elected officials, business professionals, community organizers, TV and print media people and even a woman who cleans houses for a living. But this is the first time we’ve featured a farm.

Person of the Month, Martín Zuñíga.
“My mission for Santa Rosa is to find underrepresented artists and make sure they are in galleries, museums, and in the art world. Generally, I’m looking for these artists in the special education classrooms, in the criminal justice system, in the fields, in communities that are usually not associated with the fine art world. These artists express experiences that need to be shared and appreciated, and I want to make sure there is a space for all of us, and a light shining on this work too.”

An open house to introduce Roseland Collegiate Prep, a college-preparatory charter middle and high school, to the
Santa Rosa community. Roseland Collegiate Prep will alleviate demand for more than 100 families on Roseland’s waiting list
and provide Santa Rosa students with greater access to a high-quality, college preparatory public high school. Through a partnership with the Ursuline community, Roseland will be
utilizing the former Ursuline High School campus and further expand its 130-year legacy of community dedication. Led by incoming principal Amy Jones-Kerr, RCPrep will prepare students for broad community service with a focus on social justice and environmental issues.

People from all over the world come to gain an education that will allow them to open up their own dog assistance centers. Golden Retrievers and Labradors are the only breeds bred to be assistance dogs. These canines are hard working, empathetic, low arousal and enjoy pleasing people. The Humanist Community by Noris Binet. Many believe that we are again
living through a historic moment that reaffirms the belief that humanism is not only essential but inevitable if we want to find ways to compel organizations to respond effectively to the real needs of communities. When work practices, implementation of programs and jobs look beyond just basic needs and address the “total human” as a core concern, then there arises an opportunity for communities to move forward and lead their own destiny. SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS FOR YOUR FOUR-LEGGED FAMILY MEMBERS
By Dr. Christi Camblor
The holiday season is upon us and along with it come some special concerns for your pets. A delicious tray of Christmas chocolates or Halloween candy can turn into a toxic treat.
A stray turkey bone could be a choking hazard and even a piece of tinsel could be life threatening. The good news is once you know what the hazards are, you can easily keep your pets safe and sound for the holidays. See page 3.

English language learners are opening doors of opportunities for themselves and their children. Lorri Bodganski and Eleanor Welch teach ESL at businesses in Sonoma County through the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce's WHEEL (Worksite Held Employee English Learning) program. The students pictured in the gallery are enrolled in Lorri Bogdanski's basic English class through Santa Rosa Junior College and the CBET program. This is a night class held twice a week in an elementary school classroom. Latinos face more challenges in this country when they don't speak the English language.
