[SPANISH BELOW] David Huerta, 58, president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) of California, was released Monday on $50,000 bail. His arrest occurred Friday while he was protesting outside a Los Angeles business where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were conducting a raid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A video shows a federal agent pushing Huerta, who had his hands on his hips, after which he falls to the ground. According to a report by California Congressman Gil Cisneros, the SEIU California president also received an electric shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huerta received medical treatment for his injuries before being detained by federal authorities for allegedly obstructing agents. An ICE document indicates that the union leader allegedly pushed a federal agent during the execution of a search warrant at a business suspected of hiring unauthorized immigrants. The document states that \u201che and the others had pre-planned their arrival to disrupt the operation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his arrest, SEIU members and immigrant advocates led demonstrations in cities such as Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and New York to demand Huerta’s immediate release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his release, Huerta told the press that he did not intend to be arrested and stated, “This fight is ours, it is our community’s, but it is everyone’s. We all have to fight for them. We all have to fight for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For its part, the SEIU issued a statement announcing the release of its leader, but also demanded \u201cthe release of all people unjustly detained, and an end to the raids.\u201d In addition, the statement demands that \u201call immigration proceedings uphold the principles of due process, and that all detainees have access to the legal representation and rights promised by the constitution\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, protests continue in California and the rest of the country against immigration raids promoted by the Donald Trump administration. Thousands of people took to the streets of Los Angeles, the second largest city in the country, after the president ordered the deployment of the National Guard and other federal forces, despite opposition from state authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Huerta, de 58 a\u00f1os, presidente del Sindicato Internacional de Empleados de Servicios (SEIU) de California, fue liberado este lunes bajo fianza de $50,000. Su arresto ocurri\u00f3 el viernes mientras protestaba frente a un negocio de Los \u00c1ngeles donde agentes del Servicio de Inmigraci\u00f3n y Control de Aduanas (ICE) realizaban una redada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un video muestra a un agente federal empujando a Huerta, quien ten\u00eda las manos en las caderas, tras lo cual cae al suelo. Seg\u00fan el reporte del Diputado de California Gil Cisneros, el presidente del SEIU California tambi\u00e9n recibi\u00f3 una descarga el\u00e9ctrica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huerta recibi\u00f3 tratamiento m\u00e9dico por sus heridas antes de ser detenido por las autoridades federales por supuesta obstrucci\u00f3n a agentes. Un documento de ICE indica que el l\u00edder sindical habr\u00eda empujado a un agente federal durante la ejecuci\u00f3n de una orden de registro en un negocio sospechoso de contratar inmigrantes no autorizados. El documento afirma que “\u00e9l y los dem\u00e1s hab\u00edan planeado de antemano su llegada para interrumpir la operaci\u00f3n”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tras su detenci\u00f3n, miembros del SEIU y defensores de inmigrantes lideraron diversas manifestaciones en ciudades como Los \u00c1ngeles, Boston, Chicago y Nueva York, para exigir la inmediata liberaci\u00f3n de Huerta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luego de ser liberado, Huerta declar\u00f3 a la prensa que no ten\u00eda la intenci\u00f3n de ser arrestado y afirm\u00f3: “Esta lucha es nuestra, es de nuestra comunidad, pero es de todos. Todos tenemos que luchar por ellos”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por su parte, el SEIU emiti\u00f3 un comunicado anunciando la liberaci\u00f3n de su l\u00edder, pero tambi\u00e9n demandaron “la liberaci\u00f3n de todas las personas detenidas injustamente y el fin de las redadas migratorias”. Adem\u00e1s, el comunicado exige que “todos los procedimietos de inmigraci\u00f3n se adecuen al debido proceso, y que todos los detenidos tengan acceso a representaci\u00f3n legal y los derechos prometidos bajo la Constituci\u00f3n”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mientras tanto, contin\u00faan las protestas en California y el resto del pa\u00eds contra las redadas migratorias promovidas por el gobierno de Donald Trump.
